It offers the best support for books purchased directly from the Amazon Kindle store, and that’s where you’ll find the most customization. It doesn’t support ePub files, but it does support Amazon’s own semi-proprietary.mobi file extension. Amazon’s Kindle e-book reader is the direct competitor to Apple’s iBook’s reader.

Kindle Unlimited and Amazon Prime members can select and download Kindle books directly in the app.

Kindle books you have purchased on Amazon will automatically appear in your app. Something tells me Ghostnote will be lurking in our midsts for a long time to come.READ ANYTIME, ANYWHERE On the bus, on your break, in your bed-never be without a book. There’s plenty to like about Ghostnote, but perhaps most impressive is Ghostnote’s developer: persistently active, responding to user feedback, incorporating requested and inventive features, and always looking forward to making improvements (“team notes” could be a gamechanger for many). Ghostnote bridges a gap you didn’t know existed. It won’t entirely replace your preferred note taking application, but it isn’t trying to. For users who frequently visit the same websites – especially as part of your work routine – Ghostnote is a true revelation. Jotting down a quick thought while I’m viewing a Google doc no longer means launching TextEdit or sharing half-baked ideas in the document’s public comments with coworkers. My typical workflows have been shattered. My favorite use has been keeping notes while using my web browser. It’s like you’ve unlocked a hidden feature in every app on your Mac. It takes a moment to break the habit of launching your go-to note taking app, but when you do, Ghostnote feels like magic. Ghostnote follows you around, ready to keep information tucked away but immediately at-hand.

With Ghostnote, small notes haunt individual files, applications, links, documents – anything you look at on your Mac can have an accompanying note. No matter what, your notes live somewhere – or, more specifically, somewhere *else*. Maybe you have a monstrous list dating back years in your native OS Notes app. You might have a neatly organized plethora of Evernote notebooks, or meticulously tagged scraps in SimpleNote. What do you do when you need to make a quick note? You might reflexively jot notes down in simple TextEdit files. I wouldn't even consider adopting this app until I knew the answers to these questions. * If one renames a volume / disk, will the Ghostnote linking be retained? * If the file(s) are emailed to someone else with Ghostnote, will they see the note? * What if I copy the files/folders to another drive, such as external drive. * Do the Ghostnotes transfer to other Macs running Ghostnote? * Are they retained if the hard drive is cloned to an external drive, the internal drive replaced/upgraded, and the data is cloned back again? * Will they remain after an operating system reinstall? * What things that one might do with their Mac might delete the notes, or break the links between the notes and the files?

Because all I can think of is the document notes in the Classic Mac OS and how as soon as you did a desktop rebuild (I think it was), the notes would be wiped out! How resilient / robust are these Ghostnotes? I'm really concerned about relying on a utility like this, when there is no details given about how persistent these notes are. (Just be careful not to rename a folder or file AFTER adding a Ghostnote-your notes will be gone!) The only thing missing: cloud sync (reportedly the developer is working on something along those lines). Much faster and more convenient than opening a notepad app and starting a check list by file name, project name etc.įor me, this app fills a gap between tags and a notepad/to-do apps-it won't replace your project management/GTD apps, but it will help jolt your memory when you need it, and everything important you wrote down is right there, with your files and folders. Each time I open the document or document folder, the Ghostnote menubar icon alerts me to the fact that I still have some open items to attend to.

(Like most people) I frequently work on multiple documents and projects if there is something I still need to address or if a thought pops to mind that is worth pursuing in this context, I simply "attach" a Ghostnote to it. This is another one of those apps whose value you won't appreciate until you start using it.
